What initially began as a two- to three-month assignment evolved into a dynamic and rewarding collaboration spanning nearly two years. After 22 intensive, insightful and impactful months, my interim role at Brightlands Chemelot Campus has come to an end.

Brightlands Chemelot Campus is a unique ecosystem where innovation, science and entrepreneurship meet. Within this setting, real estate plays a vital role in enabling growth and development. As interim business controller for real estate, I had the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to this mission , in a role that brought together strategy, finance and social relevance.

A glimpse of my contribution

Over the course of my assignment, I was involved in a wide range of key initiatives, including:

  • The refinancing of the entire real estate portfolio, including the development facility;

  • The successful closing of a revised shareholder cooperation agreement;

  • A change in accounting policy for investment properties, from historical cost to fair value;

  • The development and assessment of several real estate business cases;

  • Two long-term strategic multiyear budgets and two annual financial statements;

  • And countless other tasks across the day-to-day financial and strategic operations.

This role offered a rare combination of complexity, dynamic and purpose. A perfect match for my professional interests and expertise. It required both technical precision and the ability to keep sight of the broader strategic context.

Grateful for the bright journey

Iโ€™m deeply thankful for the trust, collaboration and inspiring conversations throughout this bright journey. My sincere thanks go to Jurgen, Kirstie, Roger, Pieter Jan, Linda, Bjorn, Ilse, Suzanne, Edgar, Pascal, Ralph and Rene, and, of course, to the many others at Brightlands who made this experience so valuable. A special word of appreciation also goes to Roel of Sparke & Keane for his continued support.

Looking forward

For now, Iโ€™ll be taking a short break to recharge , spending time with my daughter and partner, enjoying a well deserved vacation and to focus on completing my Executive Master of Finance & Control (EMFC) and thesis.

See you soon!

Rianne
